Hatchet (Brian's Saga, #1)

Simply awful. Mostly due to repetitive phrases. I like survival stories—but not this. A kid saves a plane from wrecking and tramps around in the wilderness with a hatchet while persevering about his parents divorce. Heck, the Box Car Children is a more realistic—and entertaining—survival story. The writing is geared for a child, but at times it uses specialized language like "banking a fire." Maybe Boy Scout readers know what that means—but not your average kid. And ugh, the repetition of “the divorce ... “The Secret. I know I must be deeply flawed in some fundamental way to see the depiction of a child’s fear as merely mawkish, manipulative, sentimentality spooned out by the author. But that’s me.
