"Stylish literary flourishes sometimes cloud our judgment when it comes to evaluating the plot itself, which is, after all, the reason why the book exists."
I really wanted to like this book, as I've previously read The Road, which I thought was great. But, there's not much to like here. There's very little plot, there are no characters to sympathize with, and there are ENDLESS descriptions of the most mundane of things *mostly traveling through the wasteland of the West*.
It doesn't help things that the main character seemingly dissapears for long stretches, and you rarely know who's point of view you're supposed to see the story *what little of it there is* through. Lastly, what McCarthy acheives here is the most pretentious way possible of saying a group of psychopaths travel a long way and kill many innocent people. That's about it.
