The Dry (Aaron Falk, #1)

The Prologue is absolutely mind-blowing. Loved how that was written. The story is well thought out, and very detailed. I found this detail a little tedious and distracting. Jane Harper's command of the English language is enviable, her descriptions are rich and colourful, although much of it is a bleak depiction of life in a "dying" environment. The plot has a few surprises, certainly well thought out as Harper leads you through a maze of scenarios, believable outcomes etc. only to find that you missed it altogether, as Aaron Falk and his colleague Raco, the local copper, did. There are parts of the book I really liked, and parts that I found tedious, too detailed, to the point of nearly losing me. But overall, I still gave it a four-star, because it is so well-written.

"Jane Harper's writing paints a picture on every line...crisp, hard, full. Too early for story...but so far, I am being pulled to find out what happened to Luke Hadler."
