Nathan Hill's writing is so good. The storytelling so compelling. It took all my attention while I read and listened simultaneously. My heart hurts for Faye's inability to let people love her. Samuel's long, difficult time finding a way to live a good life. 1968 riots in Chicago, I was Faye's age. From the NPR review by Jason Sheehan "Small mistakes lead to life's great tragedies."

"If a book could pick itself up and throw itself at my head this would be the book...Everything we hold dear is being shredded. A house in the burbs, a good job, appliances. Ouch!"

"I know that without conflict there would be no story. But these people are just killing me. They never tell anyone how they really feel or what they really think. They are all expert at stuffing there feelings down into oblivion. They do not connect."

"Now I am exhausted. This should count as my 800 page book! Where is this story going. Samuel cannot catch a break. Pwnage is wrecked. He is not my type plus I need to get off my phone before I loose brain function."
