I was so excited to get an advance copy of Artemis! I wanted to love this book so much because of my infatuation with The Martian... but, I couldn't get over my pet peeve of men writing women characters badly. Jazz is just "too" much of everything - smart, snarky, handy, you name it, she's the best at it - there's no realness to her character. I also felt like the narrative tone spoke down to me, it felt like I was reading a scholastic YA novel written by a man geared to get middle school girls excited about space. I'm sorry, I just can't with this novel. The author is a great writer, but this is not a great book.
