really liked it
bookshelves: history, cold-war-vietnam, z-vietnam

I read this while watching Ken Burns' documentary on the war and it was the perfect companion. What a heavy, important project with such scope. Appy interviewed infantrymen and generals, protestors and politicians, poets, artists, draft dodgers and ordinary citizens of both countries whose lives were affected by the decades-long conflict. I have a much better understanding of what went on in Vietnam after immersing myself in the voices of the "patriots" who lived through it, and I found the oral history format fascinating in all its rawness. Really well done.
