I will forever love this series! Preordered and have read it through twice, just so I could really understand the book and leave a review.

For starters, this is not a sequel really. It's a novella. An in between for the next book. So for this reason, I rated it different than a normal book/sequel. No action takes place here, which in a way is sad in comparison to the last 3 which had wonderful action sequences. Again, it's a novella so this was not expected anyways.

This book picks up pretty close to the ending of ACOWAR. Set in the winter, right before the winter solstice. Feyre and Rhysand are rebuilding the Night Court after Hybern, little discussion is made for the human world now unprotected with the wall's destruction, and trying to readjust to a more quiet life. The book switches from Feyre and Rhysand's POV, to third person POV of Mor, Cassian, and at one point Nesta. You get to learn a little more about the characters and how they are affected by the war. The guys are handling the upset many Illyrians have in regards to the war's death toll. Many families have experienced deaths of their children, husbands, etc. who fought in the war. Rhys, Azriel, and Cassian are naturally worried of what the upset could lead to in their near future. But nothing else is really discussed how they plan to handle it. Perhaps foreshadowing of the next book's problem? The novella discusses the crew trying to shop for each other and looking forward to their Winter Solstice celebration to lighten the mood finally after they all barely survived the war.

Feyre is dealing with regret and remorse still for her sisters being turned by Hybern, her father's death, the destruction of Vallaris, the death count of her people, and for her sisters' emotions.
Elaine is quiet and keeps to cooking. Poor Lucien really tries to be kind to her, but this bitch just ignores him like he's nothing. I get it, your fiancé broke it off with you because you became a faery against your wishes. Blah. You don't understand the mating bond. Fine. But my gosh at least be a decent human being that your stupid sister whines and says you are and talk to the guy instead of ignoring his very presence!

Nesta, I want to punch in the face hard, then throw her moody ass into the Sidra to freeze. I don't care about her moping about that her life sucks, she hates how she was forced into this life, so "I'm just going to live in a shit apartment and drown my sorrows at the most disgusting tavern I can find. Oh and ignore my family because it's all their fault." GET OVER YOURSELF!!!! Quit being selfish and toughen up like you like to act. I truly hate her bitch act. Cassian tries to be nice and do cute things for her but again, bitch mode to the highest level! And Feyre pays her rent for her to just blow off Feyre and act like she's being tortured to just attend the Solstice festivities.

What I love about these books, including SJM's "A Throne of Glass" series, is that the readers are truly able to see SJM mature with her writing as well. Her romantic scenes have really come a long way from the ACOTAR and TOG. I will still say they have awkward moments. Her romantic scenes have just awkward wording. I constantly arched an eyebrow or shook my head. Sorry if I am the only one that felt this way.

Also, cheesy warning!!! The gifts Feyre gives in the book are super corny and personally I didn't quite understand. I did, but I didn't. Her gift to Rhys was not at all a Christmas-like gift. It was just...weird. Whereas he bought her a really nice ass useful thing.

I am now anxiously counting down until October for TOG #7, followed by a 2019 countdown for the next ACOTAR sequel! Here's to the rest of the characters having their shining moments in the future sequels!
