The Queen of Nothing (The Folk of the Air, #3)

A paper crown at a jaunty angle and shrimp covered pizza for a king and queen of Faerie. What a gorgeous juxtaposition between plastic cups and courtly gowns made of spider silk or morning dew. Ugh! I loved the humor and touching heart of this book. I loved that Jude is redeemed by her loved ones and shown to be cared for in spite of her armored heart. I loved that Carden is shown to be much more than the swaggering beguiling faerie looking for chances to wound, trick, and betray that he outwardly projects. I am so happy with the conclusion of this series! Everything is so intricately wound together - not every character and plot line get a fully fleshed out end but neither do they feel loose and woefully unfinished. The latter half of the book did feel kind of rushed - like it had been edited down quite a bit - but honestly I loved where the story went. I really enjoyed the insertion of Grima Mog into the plot and my heart broke over the near fatal confrontation between Madoc and Jude. Holly Black just crafted their relationship and its development so masterfully. The whole course of events between them just breathed with a life of its own and seemed so wholly inevitable. I could not have wished for a better conclusion with Heather and Vivi than for them to have a fresh shot at happiness together after all that transpired. And I feel more at peace with Taryn than I expected to - I feel like she’s on her way to writing her own future. So in conclusion to this very scattered, unorganized review, I think my final feelings on this book can be best represented by two, very mortal, thumbs-up.
