This is a nice, straightforward retelling of Beauty and the Beast, which I enjoyed without being completely drawn into the story.
While Beauty's background is built up nicely, the spark and excitement was utterly missing from her relationship with the Beast. It was a bit on the boring side.

I really like this one, but it might well have something to do with the fact that I first read it around age 10 and continued to reread it regularly throughout my teens. It's been quite a few years since my last reread. I'm a little worried it won't hold up now! Have you read Rose Daughter? I still find Beauty to be much more memorable than McKinley's second try at retelling Beauty and the Beast.
