It was lacking a lot of exposition/world building, in my opinion, and wasn't able to hold me in the story. I couldn't really sympathize with the characters, and they were incredibly inconsistent. I never skim through books, but for this one I did because I wanted to get it over with. That said, the world has an interesting premise, and I think her writing will improve with later books. I'm just not sure I'll be reading them.

Edit: An Ember in the Ashes was at least fun to read, so upon reflection, the month I suffered for CBAB gives it a 1 star.
