it was amazing
Read 2 times. Last read November 11, 2011 to November 13, 2011.

I have just reread this after reading "Scout, Atticus and Boo". I read it originally years ago and have seen the movie at least two times. After reading "Scout, Atticus and Boo" and watching the movie again, I realized that I didn't remember the entire story of the novel.
Harper gives us so many "right-on truths" in this novel that it could be read over and over again, and should be, in order to absorb them all. One that jumped out at me on this reading was when Jem came to this realization "I think I'm beginning to understand why Boo stayed shut up in the house all this time....it's because he wants to stay inside". Just a simple truth. On the surface, it would seem to be a simple book but it is way way more than that.
One thing that I question though is the fact that it is on many 8th grade reading lists; I'm not sure that they would quite understand all that she is trying to convey. If read by younger people, I think they should definitely have guidance throughout and should be sure to read it again when the are older. Of course, I could be wrong and not be giving them enough credit.
Comparing the movie to the book: this movie was a great adaptation but the movie was Atticus's (Gregory Peck will now always be Atticus in my mind)and the book was Scout's.
Read the book first but see the movie also. Then read the book again!
