Ugresic is one of my favorite authors. Her writing is unmatched; she's engaging, witty, blisteringly smart, almost cringingly honest about herself, unpretentious, and dry humored; her stories are unique and their arrangement and development requires concentration and true thinking on the part of the reader. She is an excellent puzzle-maker, and it's evident that she enjoys the process. She's truly a reader's writer.
"Fox" is her latest and possibly greatest. This is a very complicated compilation, and I think it's probably her strongest writing. My copy is heavily highlighted and dog-eared. I almost never write in books, but there were so many great parts of this that I found myself constantly holding a pen.
Ugresic could publish a collection of stories that simply recount conversations that she's had with people while sitting on a bench drinking wine, and it would be a stunning work.
