Having seen the film several times I found the book to tell a somewhat different story along with characters I don't remember from the movie. The basic story is similar though the epilogue adds another element which the film could have easily added. Well paced and engaging, I like Preston's style and it appears the detective he created is used in a number of other stories he's published. Needless to say the visual elements and special effects in the film add to the suspense and terror as well as the A-list actors and direction. As for the book I recommend it since it blends a number of elements into the story and is a true page turner.
