Daemon (Daemon, #1)

Daniel Suarez's tech-thriller 'Daemon' mixes network security and video games, two of my favorite things. It yields this law enforcement, government financial beast of a story set in the nearish future.
The writing is good, and the author clearly knows what he's talking about when it comes to network security. During some of the (what was supposed to be) high-adrenaline action scenes, I felt the story lost some of its mojo.
Suarez excels when he is up close and personal, which is why I came to love the main characters. The scene with Merritt in Sobol's mansion was a "blast".
Overall, the story works. Maybe in the future I'll read more John Ross, but not for now. I need a break from stories like these... where tech becomes a bad thing for humanity.
I recommend this book because he writes MMOs and virtual reality incredibly well.

"This book is good, but it's long and I'm ready for it to be over because I'm kind of over thrillers for the time being. Ross is a cool character which I'm enjoying, but he's being naughty. The ip network basics reads like I'm studying it in a textbook."

Ross looked up. "Bored, but it's nothing a sports car won't fix.""
