it was amazing

I absolutely loved this book!! I listened to it on audio, and I believe that might have been a factor in why I loved it so much; the narrator was amazing! It sounded like she was telling me a fairy-tale, and she put emotion into the voices and it really made the story come to life. So if you're considering picking this up, I highly recommend the audiobook.

As for the story itself, I was so intrigued. We follow Evie, whose best friend died four years ago, and a new girl who looks exactly like her dead best friend. She is a mermaid, and has become human to win over her one true love (pretty much The Little Mermaid).

It was so cool to see the similarities between this book and the original The Little Mermaid. You can see where Ursula got some of her ideas, how she acquired her lair, etc. I love this origin story because it makes sense. I can believe this actually happened.

My only complaint is that it was a bit slow in the middle. It dragged on and nothing happened for a little while. But I was still so captivated by the story that I didn't really care.

The ending was such a huge surprise. Obviously, since you know this is the original story of Ursula, you know this book does not have a happy ending. However, the events that unfold are still so unexpected and are played out in such a way that will leave you quite sad. The author did a great job with plot twist and the element of surprise.

All in all, I loved this book so much, and this is now exactly how I believe Usula came to be. If you're wondering if you should pick this up, please please do!
