Nominated to the Man Booker long list this is a fresh voice that requires concentration and patience, but if you persist it pays off.
The setting is never named, but is Belfast Ireland in the late 1970's during the height of the troubles. Throughout this work we get a fresh take on the surveillance state, rumor, and an overall feeling of disconnectedness with life. There have already been numerous excellent reviews so I will end with a strong encouragement for people to check this one out and an appreciation that it was nominated or I would have missed this one.
