so this was an interesting book. Its about an AI who starts to take over the world. The difference between this an others of its like, is the AI is not some human like entity. The AI is not human like at all, sounding like the "press 1 for" phone option. Its not that the AI knows everything or is all powerful but is spread out so far and recruits so well that it seems unstoppable. The AI uses tech that is believable, not human-like robots or spaceships, instead it's driver less cars and offshore money.

What I don't like is how dumb everyone is. What the creator of this AI did could not be done with just him, he needed help and if any of those people had objections this would be over. The AI uses threats to keep it's helpers inline, and it was explained it just had many backups if something failed, but if randomness takes place its plans should fall apart. If one person just cracked or there was a power outage or their devices just failed as they tend to do, or a random person notices something fishy.

Worst part was the authorities letting an agent die, framed for murder. never did they consider this was a trap, their excuse was interference would lead to AI's retaliation; problem is that they are leading a task force to stop the AI and the AI knows this, and they know it knows because they tried to infiltrate its network and were kicked out. This was more about not wanting public to know, nobody called them out on this and one of the main characters only put a token objection. After the execution a college gets upset for a minute that flirts with the woman who gave the token objection, they have a romantic moment talking about their pasts; it was inappropriate. The characters are all unlikable.

We also got a report who helps set this up going from wanting a big story to planning murder. mechanics who go to making death cars and majors double dealing with private corps risking entire task force.
