To put it simply, I strongly disliked this book. I read it for school. It was definitely not my kind of book. I feel that Steinbeck spent too much time describing the setting than on action. Other than that, the plot was quite interesting. The distinction between good and evil by way of character personalities was quite clear. However, I'm more of one for mysteries. Steinbeck didn't attempt to hide anything in this novella. For a book with almost the same universal theme, I would recommend The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Much more excitement there.
