It'll happen one day, you'll see. William Gibson WILL right an ending that resembles something other then a last ditch attempt from a man desperate not to default on his contract.
It will not stink of a man who has just watched the sunrise with a headful of Jack Daniels. No it will be thematically fufilling, and tie up and enrich the man threads that have wound through the novel like a tapestry. Giving these rich themes, imagery, and characters the proper glory rather then merely tarnishing everthin. It'll happen one day I'm telling you.
Sigh, but not this time.

thanks for the chuckle and the the smile after 12 hard in the er. i feel your pain, when you put so much time into a book and there is no pay out, but like a nickle slot addict, i just keep pulling for a winner!

I thought the reading was the payout. I enjoyed following Cayce's journey for the origin of the footage as opposed to looking for an adequate resolution. When it ended I was a little disappointed that we wouldn't be able to follow this character any longer. Incidentally, I think it's interesting that he chose to name her Cayce, since Case was the name of the protagonist of his first three successful novels. I hope this is foreshadowing that there is more to this story and we may see Cayce again in another book.
I'm pretty sure the original ending of the book is when Cayce walks out of the squat deciding not to take the cab.
Amen brother. The ending alone turned a five star book into a three one for me.
This was my exact feeling about this book. Hilarious.
I thought the endings to "Neuromancer" and "Mona Lisa Overdrive" were both brilliant. I don't get where people are coming from on that.That said. "Count Zero's" squirrle stupidity does ring painfully in my mind, and I can't remember the last words of any of the other Gibson books I read.
I like the idea of righting an ending :-)
The ending is anti-climatic. It didn't end in a Pomo gusto. I'm conflicted tho, because it did suit the low key tone of the book.
wow. this is certainly one way to reveal your stupidity.
