(2.5) I really wanted to like this but considering it took me 4 years to actually finish it... it wasn't for me. Darker than I expected with a story that had good moments but overall left me uninterested.

Interested to see how you get on with this one, I read it after a coworker raved about it, and honestly was quite underwhelmed...
I really really enjoyed this book but, indeed, it took a much darker turn than what the summary and whimsical cover art seemingly implied...
I’m glad it’s not just me. I found the story really interesting at first, being a neurodivergent individual myself, but this was a tough read. I believe I finished it in a week or 2, but I definitely had to take a break about half way through on this one to get through it.
I read it for my book club. Had it not been for it being a book I'd discuss with friends, I would have given up about 100 pages in.
Oh wow…I thought I was the only one. It took me about 4 years as well! Normally I can finish reading a book within a month. I also really wanted to like it! I found her so unlikeable for the first 1/2. That said, something kept nagging me to come back and finish it over the 4 years rather than give up completely. I gave it a 3 star in the end, but would say I agree with the 2.5 you’ve given
