A Deeper Love (Ghosts of the Shadow Market, #5)

Unfortunately, I did not love this novella either! Ghosts From The Shadow Market have been fairly hit or miss for me, and this is definitely one of the novellas that will not stick. Some of the novellas are so valuable and do a spectacular job at adding development to the many stories of the Shadowhunter Chronicles and others, like A Deeper Love, tend to lack that feeling of “I NEEDED this story.
CW: war, death
I really enjoyed the setting of the story. I would not consider myself a huge fan of historical fiction, but I always enjoy reading snippets of characters whom I already love exist within my history/the history I’ve learned about in school.
I also enjoyed getting to see more of the friendship between Catarina Loss and Tessa the thought of them living together and working as nurses to help with the war absolutely warms my heart.
Another factor I really appreciated about this story is we get a bit of a deeper understanding of Tessa's grief and see her start to come to terms with her mortality. Out of her appearances in the many many installments of the Shadowhunter Chronicles, we see Tessa either young or old. She's either just begun to understand her identity, or she's had over a century to live and learn. This novella takes place during an extremely trying time in Tessa's life and I am very satisfied that we get to see her being vulnerable and starting to recover.
Other than that, this story didn’t have a “WOW moment for me. The ending was sweet and sad at the same time, but the plot did not impress me. It was a bit slow and stagnant in my opinion and I wish there had been a greater force propelling the story.
If you REALLY love Jem, Tessa, and Will and will grab at the chance for any story concerning the three of them, you’ll probably really enjoy it. If you’re looking for something more, you will probably share my thoughts on this one.
