Killing this one. It pains me to quit a book 1/3 through as we are barely over a week into the new year and I loathe stopping books midway through. I do it maybe once or twice per year. But I just can't make it through this book. How the hell did this become a NYT bestseller?! Do people not read critically?! This is the weird manipulative vampire bullshit from Twilight all over again. I'll just drop this passage here and you can decide whether this book is worth your time and attention or if this is some fked up, controlling, misogynistic shit:

"Let me go Matthew," I struggled in his arms.

"no."

No man had ever refused when I asked him to stop doing something - whether it was blowing his nose in the library or slipping a hand up my shirt at the movies. I struggled again. His arms got tighter.

"stop fighting me." He sounded amused. "You'll get tired long before I do, I assure you,"

[Later in the "conversation"]

He rested his cheek against the side of my head. It was comforting, if I overlooked the fact that he was holding me against my wishes.

WHAT THE LITERAL FUCK! Do people not read this book critically?! This is glorifying a man having control over a woman. And her enjoying it. Besides this and other passages like it, the book was terribly written, needed an editor, and the characters insufferable, if the above passage wasn't enough of an indication. Just UGH all around. I can't believe there was a waiting list for this at the library.
