Wow, all the reviews were right on this one. The Secret was a delight to read! I’m always happy to find new historical romance authors. I’ve read one contemporary romance novel by Julie Garwood, which didn’t work out for me and good thing I tried again.
The best thing about The Secret is that it had all the stuff I like in a Historical Romance book and none of the other stuff that drives me crazy.
The story was well-thought-out and developed.
The characters were all 100% lovable
The tension between the Hero and Heroine was excellent
The Hero was a true alpha male!
When I started the book I questioned if I was going to like it. The author gives you a little background of the two best friends. Judith is the main character and her best friend is the side character.
But after the first chapter, the book was ready to go.
Judith is the star of the show in this book. She’s independent and out spoken, but she’s never ridiculous or high mighty. I love that! I like that she has some sass, but it reads well and very believable.
Iain is like a duke but in the Scottish version (I had to google this). I like that he has such responsibilities. I love that he was cold and hard to get close (by other people). But for some reason he is really attracted to Judith and he lets her know that. In his own way.
Judith is English and Iain is Scottish. The Scots don’t like English and I really liked that tension.
I liked that the tension between Iain and Judith was cute. He would want her to ride with him, but not really talk to her. He would keep her safe, but be domineering. It was just adorable. I like the secondary characters too. I liked the towns people and it felt like I was reading a new world. It was just overall nice and refreshing.
If you are looking for a good read, I highly suggest this!
