Read 3 times. Last read April 2, 2024 to April 4, 2024.
2015: Simply perfect each and every time you read it.
2021: Rereading books just hits me differently now after the last five years of all the Trump and pandemic trauma. Things just affect me in unexpected ways, I’m more sensitive and emotional; I really need to get ahold of myself! Instead I cried through the last few chapters of the book!
My thoughts:
I feel like this is when the series started to become more than just a middle grade phenomenon. Darker from the beginning and they will only get more so.
Sometimes I had to stop and pause at how good the writing is in certain chapters, like the Goblet of Fire and the Four Champions. How can you not love this sentence: “I will be delighted to hear the reasoning behind the rudeness, but . . .
And Dumbledore innocently chatting about what will turn out to be the Room of Requirement! What foreshadowing!
“If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.
Cedric and Harry deciding together to go for a tie was much more touching in the book than portrayed in the film. It really showcased Cedric’s goodness.
That cemetery scene! “They, who knew the steps I took, long ago, to guard myself against mortal death?
And Fudge? How inept and stupid can one leader actually be? NVM we know the answer to that, unfortunately.
“What’s comin will come, an we’ll meet it when it does.
Sigh.
Five stars. Pure perfection.
2024: Still have all the feels. And no matter how many times I’ve read it, it’s still simply unputdownable. Love it.
*just rewatched the movie and forgot how much the adaptation pissed me off! So much left out! Too many changes! Ugh.
