The Rose & the Dagger (The Wrath and the Dawn, #2)

We are as a rose unfurling, becoming more clearly ourselves.
To be honest I didn't think I'd like this duology as much as I did. And I'm still in denial about this being the final story I get to read about these beautiful characters.
Shahrzad finds herself in the middle of a desert war camp. And as much as she wishes she could return to Khalid, she knows she first has to find a way to break the curse.
Khalid has a city to rebuild and with enemies surrounding him he needs the people he trusts most to have his back. He misses Shahrzad terribly but knows that the safest place for her is to be as far away from him as possible.
I really loved that more focus was put on the side characters. Like Irsa and how much she worries for her sister but knows that she is not all that useful. I loved her moments with Rahim and their relationship. She definitely became a favourite of mine.
I'd like to say I've warmed up to Tariq but really... I haven't. I understand his sorrow but I don't feel much sympathy for him especially since a lot of things were his fault. I don't think I can forgive him for what happened in the Sultan's palace. Bloody idiot.
The drama with Despina, Vikram and Jalal was mighty entertaining and shocking. I wish there was more about Despina and Jalal's relationship because I need more of them desperately.
I enjoyed the heck out of this book but I still don't think it was better than The Wrath and the Dawn. But I think that's because I was obsessed with the angst and tension between Khalid and Shahrzad and getting to see them open up to eachother and grow close despite the circumstances.

Pre Pread
Well... after the cliffhanger at the end of The Wrath the Dawn I just had to jump straight into this one.
________
My reviews for:
0.25. The Moth and the Flame
0.5. The Crown and the Arrow
1. The Wrath and the Dawn
1.5 The Mirror and the Maze
