2001: A Space Odyssey (Space Odyssey #1)

Wonderful thought-provoking, inviting without being simplistic and complex without being pretentious writing. Reading this classic work of sci fi in 2023 is a sure way of picking up retroactively all the small bits of inspiration that sat at the basis of so many sci fi worlds that succeeded it. It was exquisitely paced for my taste, eloquent in its social commentary and astute in its portrayal of human nature as a whole. The sci fi world Clarke created was rich and believable and the whole story flows before your eyes quite vividly.
Other than that, I finally managed to finish the god-forsaken almost-simultaneously launched movie without falling asleep mid-Blue Danube in the second act this time, so that's something. But if I had to pick, apologising to all film students and Kubrick fans out there, the distance between these two works of fiction is the same as the one between Jupiter and the rings of Saturn.
