#8 Justice for All by Chris Patchell sets up the baseline for her Holt Foundation series - we join Elizabeth Holt in the 1970s as she works her way through law school and into her career as assistant District Attorney in a county in the Northwestern US. Engaged to a wealthy lawyer, Elizabeth is busy with her life seeking justice for strangers and preparing for her marriage in 216 days when she is kidnapped, terrorized and raped, stabbed multiple times and beaten into a coma from which she awakened with a whole new outline for her life. A life that now couldn't include children. But did include a forward-thinking doctor who respected DNA technology even in it's infancy. And for thirteen years she sought justice for others, but she also needed justice for herself. She and her friend, Detective Maxwell Singer. On December 22, 1987 Max had a hit on the DNA in a new rape case in Spokane that tied the perpetrator to Elizabeth's case. Max knew he hadn't quit - they don't - he had just moved. But even now that he was found, Elizabeth couldn't get her old life back. All she could hope for was to be able to find justice for others. That was the story behind the birth of the Holt Foundation. A very fine story it is.
