To start with, the story has too many characters that one cannot possibly keep track of. As a reader I did not immediately like Emma or Harriet even though them being the central characters. Miss Bates depicts the picture of how dramatic the middle aged women in that era were and Mrs Elton of how judgemental people were. There are too many surprise twists in the end, some matches we could predict in the beginning but disregard as the author makes us do to bring the twist in the end. There are some really sweet dialogues by Mr Knightley like "A man would always wish to give a women a better home than the one he takes from; and here who can do it, where there is no doubt of her regard, must, I think, be the happiest of mortals" and "to see how this sweetest and best of all creatures, faultless in spite of all her faults, bore the discovery" which makes him more gentleman, romantic and readers' favorite.
