The Wind in the Willows

This book is so quaint and charming it's easy to miss the point: Mole and Rat take a slow, quiet trip in a rowboat, together, and have a delightful time; Toad takes a fast trip in a car, alone, and has a learning experience (but not much of one, because he's a slow learner). Sweet and funny by turns, this is one of the children's classics adults aren't likely to mind rereading.
How Betty Cavanna recommended it to me was, of course, in one of her novels, which were always in libraries in their day. I don't remember any of her novels as a good read but do remember The Wind in the Willows.
