I enjoyed this book but it wasn't as good as I expected. I like Leo Tolstoy as a writer. He knows how to get in the head of a character and describe exactly how they feel. Especially with female characters, I want to say "Wow! he gets that so right!". The book had some really great parts but at other times was boring I guess because I don't really understand the politics of the time. Twice in the book there was a really important thing that happened but right after the event Tolstoy almost ignores it like it didn't happen. That was frustrating. The character names are Russian so it is really hard to remember them. I'd say it was above average.
