Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (The Wicked Years, #1)

I have heard wonderful things about this book, but I can't join in the praises. I did not like it at all. I felt it was very dark and dirty, for lack of a better way of describing it. Maybe, if it weren't attached to such a great original story (The Wizard of Oz) then I wouldn't have been so turned off by Gregory Maguire's version. I think that the idea is a fantastic one, and the Broadway production of this book is incredible. I actually read the book because I saw the play and wanted to find out more. I was expecting so much more than I found.
Needless, to say I will not be recommending this book.
