Five bright, shiny stars for "The Sun Down Motel"! It has taken me a few days to complete my review on this novel, mainly because I feel as though my words cannot do it justice.
"The Sun Down Motel" was my BOTM pick for January and it did not disappoint. I loved this book the minute I read the dedication...and so will any other murderinos!
I usually shy away from ghost stories because I am a wimp. I am so glad I womaned up and read this novel. The ghosts were lovely characters that you wanted to interact with. You wanted to know their story. Even though there were numerous characters and names, they did not become a jumbled mess. All were important in telling the story.
I immersed myself into this novel and created such strong connections with the characters. Simone St. James has a beautiful gift of being able to make you feel like you are right there at the Sun Down. You want to assist Viv in finding out what happened to all the missing girls. You want to assist Carly in finding her missing aunt. You want to help Betty find peace.
By then end, I found myself holding back tears. It takes a lot for a novel to move me in such a way, but this one did. It is a beautiful, beautiful story.
