IT has been on my TBR for YEARS and it’s just one of those bucket list type books for me. It is a whopping 1,184 pages and somehow I managed to read it in 7 days! I was switching back and forth between audio and physical copy though so that really helped me get through it faster.

This book is definitely 𝐧𝐨𝐭 for the faint of heart and I heard that a lot of people gave up on Stephen King’s writing after reading this. However, I did some research and it turns out that IT was written over a span of 4 years that also happened to be a time where he was in the midst of severe alcoholism. From what I’ve read, Stephen King has admitted to not remembering writing 600 page novels due to alcoholism. His family ended up staging an intervention in the late 80’s due to the disturbing content written in IT and he has now been sober for 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬! I just wanted people to be aware of this in case they decide to read some of his more recent work. Don’t worry, his stuff is still fucked up but I’d say it’s not quite on the level of IT. 😂
Getting into the actual book review, this book lives up to the hype 100% and is definitely just as terrifying, if not more than the actual movie. There were times when I was home alone reading or listening to the audiobook and my heart would start pounding. Stephen King just has a way of writing that draws you in and makes you completely forget the outside world. This has a lot of characters, which is pretty typical for Stephen King but it wasn’t too many for me to keep track of! I also really enjoyed how the story went back and forth between the past and present. The transitions were seamless and perfectly woven together to slowly release the information you need.
Overall, I’m so glad I finally got to read this book and can’t wait to watch the movies now! This book is just as iconic as everyone has said and I completely believe that if you love a good horror novel, this is a must read!
