Simply put, this is the most amazing story I know and the book is incredibly written. i read this very long book about 14 years ago, and I remember my mother reading it about 10 years prior to that. I still have the actual book that she and I read. It's very special to me, not just for the connection to my mother, but because the story of Sacajawea is so well depicted within it's covers. I remember laughing on one page, then sobbing to the point of having to put the book down on the next. It's depressing, enlightening, romantic, devastating, heart-warming. It's real.

I cant wait to read it again and pass it down to my daughter.

Elaine Harvey I read this in 1978. Twice. An incredible historical novel. My oldest daughter read it. Twice. My nephew and my two sisters. It is an emotional roller coaster read and I love the way she interlaced some fiction with the Lewis and Clark papers. Have now read five times and will probably read it again. Thanks, Ms. Waldo for your dedication to writing this novel.

Trevor d I picked this book off my grandma’s shelf when I was 10. I liked the color and it was the biggest book of all, standing out amongst the rest. I started reading it. When I would visit I would read a few pages. I only got a 100 pages or so through the years (hyperactive kid and all). When she moved out of her home I got the book with the intent to finish before she passed. I ran out of time. I’m now in my 30s. Every time I read it i think of my grandma. I still use her bookmark, an info card from a potted plant she bought all those years ago. It’s funny how much meaning you can find in a little (or not so little book).
