When this book first came out, I was gaga for David Stenn's work. Now, years later, I picked it up again and have viewed it differently. Maybe it comes with age and/or research for my own project, but the nasty undertone and salacious gossipy feel leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. Clara was far from perfect and in many ways a tragic figure, but somehow I think she deserves better.

Lee Rene There are a number of errors in the book - Clara Bow came from a poor family but her home wasn't a horrible tenement, it was a brownstone. She didn't leave school at 13. She was an athlete and would have pursued it if acting hadn't panned out. We know from her talkies that she didn't have a heavy New York accent and portraying her as illiterate didn't help the book. I agree, Clara deserves better.
