The Sun Down Motel

In 1982 Viv left home to get some breathing space. Aimless she stumbled upon the Sun Down Motel in nowhere's town and got a temp job as the night cleric.
The hotel is haunted and for such a small town quite a few girls were murdered at around the same time. Jee I wonder if the two are related.
I'll be honest, if the story had followed Viv and only Viv it would have been a solid 4/5 stars and an easy recommendation.
Instead there is an odd time leap going on where we switch between Viv in 1982, and her niece Carly who is playing Nancy Drew in 2014.
Since they both had the same personality (bland 14 year old) and aged up to 20, this made reading the book confusing. I was losing track of which was which and confusing the narrative. It also seemed like Carly's parts were redundant and just there to pad out the book. I figured she was aged up when she replied to a character being 21 by saying "That would put him firmly in highschool."
To me the book was ok if confusing at time regarding which MC knew what or whom.
