A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3)

Definitely the most satisfying of the series so far, with lots of STUFF happening. I picked a pretty bad time to read this one, as the corresponding season of the HBO show was airing at the same time. I hadn't read "The Red Wedding" before the episode aired, so I had a real time avoiding spoilers for that.
Of course, after all that, I did end up reading a spoiler about Tyrion. My only solace was that it happened not much later, so at least I got that out of the way.
Speaking of the Red Wedding, the way everyone was freaking out about it, I was kind of let down when I actually found out what happened. I mean, to judge by the extreme reaction, you'd think Hodor buttrapes Bran to death and Samwell drops Gilly's baby on jagged rocks or something.
Speaking of the TV show, I'm just over it. Too many details changed for no apparent reason, too many spoilers for later books. Too many gaps to fill and things left unexplained. You just can't fit that much into a TV series like that. I just can't handle it. The only good thing about the TV show is Margaery Tyrell . I have a hard enough time remembering what I read as it is.
And while Peter Dinklage's performance as Tyrion is impressive, I don't think he matches up with the book's description of Tyrion's appearance at all, and it messes up my reading experience. The casting is good for the most part on the rest of the characters, but I have to really concentrate on the Tyrion parts to picture the twisted little ogre that the book describes.
But, back to the book.
Quick thoughts: Man, you don't want to be Sansa. Also, I wish the Starks were just a little older. It's just kind of creepy reading about a 13-year-old get hit on so much.
Littlefinger is much more dangerous than Varys. Knowing GRR Martin's style, what separates the two is probably that Littlefinger can still use his little finger for more than going No. 1.
It's funny how marriage determines the ruling structure in Westeros. Just force someone from an enemy's family to marry one of your peeps and make them do it and you get to claim all their land? No wonder everyone is always killing each other.
The Davos chapters sure got more interesting. The whole Stannis thing is getting really interesting now, so it's good to see that slogging through his chapters in the last book was worth it.
I hope Theon comes back. The book mentions that he's being tortured or whatever, but I'm sure he'll be back in some capacity.
Also, Uncle Benjen is mentioned even more than Ned Stark. There's no way this guy is still dead for them to mention him so much. My wife thinks coldhands on the big elk must be Benjen. She has tons of good predictions.
Man, all I know is that if I was any of the lesser lordlings I'd be kneeling to whoever shows up at the drawbridge. Between the wildlings, others, the Red Queen reviving dead royalty and Danaerys training dragons, I think they're all pretty screwed.
And oh yeah, sorry if this a little NSFW, but Jon Snow, you really do know nothing. There's no way anyone actually gets "The Maiden's Kiss" right the first time.
