I had a hard time getting into this one at first. January as a protagonist was frustratingly boring with no personality. Her character felt very flat which made it hard to connect to her or the whole family drama with her parents. I just could not have cared less about that entire plot point. The book picked up for me once there was more Gus and the whole research/ cult storyline was interesting. Unfortunately, there were just too many boring bits and eye-roll worthy lines for me to really like it by the end.
