“Falling’s the part that takes your breath away. It’s the part when you can’t believe the person standing in front of you both exists and happened to wander into your path. It’s supposed to make you feel lucky to be alive, exactly when and where you are.
Beach Read was one of my add ons for this month’s BOTM box. I was hoping for a fun, easy read and it blew way my expectations!
This story is about two writers. Both have beach houses (next door to each other), both have writer’s block, and both have ghosts from their pasts that they are trying to move on from. Despite the common traits, the writers are vastly different. She writes romance novels with happy endings. He writes dark fictions with dreary endings. They end up making a deal to help each other out of their writing ruts by swapping genres. He will show her how to write in his style and vise-versa. That’s the basic premise of the book, but there is so much more to it that I won’t get into because I think it’s better to discover it as you read!
I absolutely loved Beach Read. It has everything I love about a good chick lit novel. Great banter, emotional depth, a relatable leading lady, a swoon worthy leading man, and a beautiful setting for it all to unfold! January and Gus are such well written characters. They made me laugh out loud multiple times and their chemistry made me blush. There were so many aspects to this story that I wasn’t expecting (Pete & Maggie, Shadi, & the whole side story with January’s dad to name a few) and I loved every minute of it. It was a great escape that I didn’t know I needed! Beach Read is by far one of my favorite reads of 2020 and Emily Henry is an author I plan to keep an eye on now!
