The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #1)

SO GLAD it’s over! I wondered going in whether the premise was something I’d appreciate and for the first half I prided myself in “reading out of my comfort zone. When the second half became a slog fest, I was not at all happy I had already invested so much time in something that held zero interest for me. The author can write well and that must be the reason for all the five star reviews. But writing well in this case does not overcome, for me, the other issues such as far too many characters, characters with similar names-Beatriz/Bea, Fermin/Fumero, Joquin/Jacinta, narrative that flips among characters and a premise-why have these books disappeared—that does not warrant almost 500 pages to explain.
