did not like it
bookshelves: did-not-finish, young-adult, 2008

The premise of this book sounded so interesting - everyone over the age of 15 simply disappears one day and the remaining kids are left trying to figure out what happened... plus they discover that some of them are somehow developing supernatural powers. I was excited to read this and expected writing along the lines of Scott Westerfeld, based on the plot and such. But alas, the novel did not deliver for me and I put it down after 100 pages or so, when I found myself skimming pages and caring less and less.

The problem, for me, was that the writing felt rather slow. I didn't get sucked into the story, nor did I feel the sense of urgency that the characters must have been feeling. Also, the narration skipping around from person to person, introducing new characters in new situations, and I didn't really care about most of them because I didn't know who they were or how they connected to the plot, and the "powers" that some of the characters developed didn't sound that exciting the way they were described. So, a disappointment.

Tori thanks for the info - I will make sure I don't read it.

Lianna hmm. No offense but I disagree.

Stephanie Kerr If you would have kept reading you would have seen how all the characters' stories tied together.

Lianna Yeah, the stories actually tie together towards the end. I feel it's very rude of you to post a review on a book that you have not read fully, therefor posting false information about it. It gets better in the end, just give it a chance.

Kaye That was my feeling too. The premise sounded great, but it was just a little too long in the making. Strong characters are also a really big factor for me, and this one just didn't deliver.

Issy I agree. That was my exact feeling too, I could put the book down too easily, it was not gripping at all. Good idea though.

Sarah I completely disagree with your response. (no offense, i just really loved the book)I found the fact that the point of view changed from person to person very interesting. the situation showed values, and the book i thought of as fast paced since it began in action. The characters had a varying morality and point of view, making the reader truly think. It had amazing vocabulary, plot, literature, and was all out great. I think you thought the book was bad because it was simply not your style, or whatnot. however your response was very sincere.

Olivia Zee That's how I felt at first when I had no idea how all of these characters were connected. I don't know if you should be writing a bad review for it if you haven't read the whole thing. If you kept reading, all of their stories would tie together. And when you keep reading the second book, those ties get tighter and then when reading the next book, they get even tighter.

Nirene I disagree, you should've finished before saying you thought the separate plots didn't come together. The Gone series is my favorite and I understand people have different opinions but you didn't even finishe the first book! I bought it was very gripping and that the characters I could relate to. I recommend it to almost everyone who enjoys science fiction or fantasy. The different plots DO come together at the end and if you would've gave it a chance you would have saw that. If you think it's boring then I don't understand what your idea of exciting is. The powers are different and unique and at least the story isn't cliched. At least finish a book before you go and discourage people from reading it. That's just plain rude and not fair to the author.

i agree with nirene, but honestly, once you get into it it is the best series ever and i love it. you should read it again

Tori If you tried to finish the book again maybe you will change your mind- give it another go, then write your review

Green Bandana I really love this book and this is my my fave one out of the series! For some strange reason though my fave character is Drake Merwin

TheBananaLord I agree with your point about the characters. I hated how they skipped around just before it got interesting and added Lana. I mean adding her helped introduce the coyotes but they were confusing. Did the author really need to add talking coyotes into the story along with super powers and crazy kids. With the coyotes added it introduces a new mastermind, The Darkness, which isn't cleared up at all at the end of the book.

effbutnoteff I urge you to keep reading it. The reason for the new characters being introduced is that they all have a tie together in the end. The book takes a while to get going, but it is SO WORTH IT. Never put down a book at only 100 pages. Especially if it has 600 pages. You're a shame to the reading community.
