It took me 14 months of sporadic and slow reading, but I finally finished this book. I enjoy big-picture overviews of postmodern thought and wanted to get some details to add depth to my understanding. Editor Cahoone's big-picture introductions are great: concise, informative, and occasionally humorous! Cahoone does a great job of keeping you oriented throughout. What I get from the book (especially from the latter articles) is that relativism, or giving up the notion of objective absolutes, doesn't have to lead to moral inertia, groundlessness, and an abandonment of rigor in logic and science, but instead can help us embrace the paradoxical complexity of our thoughts and experiences and help us seek practical and other-oriented truths. Philosophy is alive and well.
