An American Marriage

A whole chorus of unique and sympathetic black characters, written without falling into stereotypes, hold forth on their feelings about a sapling marriage disrupted by a false accusation resulting in a 5 year prison sentence for the husband.
Jones deserves every award she has won for this book and it is bookclub gold. Is this a love story wrapped in racism? What is distinctly American about it? Other topics include toxic masculinity, systemic racism, absent parents, the purpose of marriage in society, and many more.
I asked my group, how would you have liked this to end. Everyone had a different answer. Who could ask anything more from a novel.
