This was just okay. After absolutely loving The Guest List earlier this year I was determined to seek out more books from this author. Turns out this book is actually very similar to The Guest List, just not as fun. It follows a giant group of people in an isolated area and it's a classic slow burn whodunit mystery, as we try to figure out who was murdered. This book follows many different POV's and it follows a group of old friends who are going to this isolated cabin at celebrate New Years Eve.
This book was decent and the ending did have a few surprises that I didn't see coming, but I think it was mostly predictable and kind of too slow for my taste. I wasn't super interested in any of these characters back story and I feel like this book went into too much unnecessary detail about each of the characters past and their friendships and I just didn't care that much? Maybe it's because I read The Guest List first but I just didn't have as much fun with this one. I found it to be a bit more tedious and predictable. I listened to the audiobook a bit and read the book physically and I would highly recommend the audiobook because it's a full cast of narrators and there are some really cool accents in the audiobook!

couldn't agree more, this book was fine and had its moments but overall nothing special

I was told that Hunting Party and Guest List was one of the same kind of book.
I thought the same thing, except I read The Hunting Party last year and it was just okay. So when I keep hearing all these accolades about The Guest List I was hoping for more. When I started reading it I kept thinking man this JUST like The Hunting Party with a different setting. Both stories were somewhat predictable IMO.
I was lucky enough to have read this one before reading The Guest List, so I did quite enjoy it. I do agree that I found The Guest List far better than this one, though so similar. Perhaps because I liked the characters more.

I agree. After reading the reviews, I think I’ll give up on this one. The Investigation by this author is wonderful though.
Just finished, and I agree with your review 💯. Was okay... but just took a very long time to get going to anywhere that had me wanting more from the next page. Finally got going and then it was done... womp
Interesting- I read them in the same order and preferred this one! I got ‘into it� much quicker than The Guest List
Totally agree - these books are the copycat of each other. I read the guest list first and loved it, but this one just felt like the same story, but more boring

Completely agree. It's a shame, because whilst both great on their own - it's the same story. I was bored by this one, but I know I wouldn't have been had I not already read the guest list.
