Definitely one of the best of Durrell's I've read; I read the others in chronological order and they were moving away from the "funny anecdotes" of his early life, and moving (especially in "The Stationary Ark") towards opinion pieces about zoos. But there are some brilliant anecdotes in here. A tip though: DO NOT read the last story late at night. It scared the pants off me! (And still does, when I think about it.)
