Oh boy. Just to be clear, this was 1.5 that I rounded up to be kind. I also do that for my 4.5 books so figured it was only fair to do it here too.
I had originally envisioned a drawn out review with many issues and problems pointed out but then I genuinely didn鈥檛 have the mental energy and just wanted to get to a book I鈥檇 really enjoy. I do regret the time I spent slogging through this as well as the fact that I purchased it in hardcover. Gah!
The story is very immature and exhausting, and that comes from someone who adores YA. The main character, who was originally likable, turned into an idiot fairly quickly. The Hawthorne family was absurd and downright criminal. It was a soap opera but not even in a mindlessly entertaining and fun way...just a this-is-so-unrealistic-it鈥檚-painful way. Much of what occurred made genuinely no sense apart from the vague explanation consisting of 鈥渢hese boys are weird and their grandad was a nut too.鈥 The twist at the end was a good surprise I鈥檒l admit, but I anticipated waaaaayyyyy more to make up for the 200+ pages of mediocrity I鈥檇 just read.
*SIGH*
Time to go back to the world of fantasy and sci-fi and superheroes; my quota for anything else has been fulfilled.
