This makes me happy, recently found the entire series in hard cover at Goodwill and bought it. The magic system seems really interesting to me.
Can you start with this one? Or do you think I'd need to read the previous trilogy?
You could easily start with Liveships. It reads as a standalone. Any series AFTER this one, you'd need to read Farseer too. I could recommend Liveships as a smart introduction

I was surprised i liked this trilogy as much as I did seeing how i just wanted more fitz & the fool. I also enjoyed the cameos this cast makes in later fitz books.

I have been wishy-washy on trying Robin Hobb for quite some time, but watching you go through this series is making me commit! Pretty sure I will love these.
