Cemetery Boys follows Yadriel, a Cuban-Mexican boy who is trying to prove to his family that he is a brujo. The book takes us on a fun and thrilling ride with some mystery, fantasy elements and great relationships. The book felt like it was imbued with magic and no, I am not just talking about the actual magical elements of the book.
Yadriel is one of the sweetest most amazing characters who has my whole heart. He’s loving and kind and chaotic. He's been through a lot and there are so many complications in his life when it comes to dealing with his family and culture and it was so interesting to see as he tried to navigate that.
I also loved the bond between Yadriel and his cousin, Maritza as well as the way his relationship with Julian develops. I adored seeing him get love and support from them and while there are so many people he struggles to navigate his relationship with as a trans boy, I love how he is delightfully accepted by Maritza and Julian.
Overall, Cemetery Boys was an amazing and emotional ride I will never forget. It was painful and intense and it hurt at times but it was also sweet and heartwarming and like a warm blanket on a cold, rainy day and I know I’ll be coming back to this book again.
