It held my interest until about page 68 and then I continued reading just out of curiosity.
I couldn't relate to Carly's motivation so that kind of ruined her story for me.
I mainly kept reading to find out what happened to Viv and that was soon ruined for me as well.
Let me say... this is not a horror novel, nor was the book scary or creepy at all.
This is a murder mystery that has nothing to do with the main characters of the book.
I was looking for a creepy haunted motel story and I only got that in one chapter in the beginning.
What I got instead was a story about 4 dead women and the mystery behind what happened to them. 4 dead women that I didn't care about.
This book also switches between Carly's perspective (1st person) and Viv's perspective (3rd person). Oh and we're also going in between the year 1982 (Viv) and 2017 (Carly).
It gets very confusing.
It also gets very repetitive. Carly and Viv look into the same things, so in the end I felt that this story could've been told from one perspective. We didn't need to go in between the two.
Also, the ghosts weren't scary and most weren't even needed in the story.
By the end, I figured out what was going to happen and what I didn't figure out I didn't care about.
On the bright side, I was able to finish it so it held my interest long enough for that.
