really liked it
bookshelves: steampunk, vaginal-fantasy

I really liked the first in this series and I really enjoyed the second as well. There are some jokey things with the naming I could have done without, but overall I got caught up in the characters a LOT, even moreso than the last installment. I really like how romance cliches aren't followed in this book, and it's really more of an adventure novel with some romance thrown in. I love the female lead is tough without TRYING too hard, I loved her old flame coming in, not cackling like a bad guy, but being a genuinely interesting character. The overall plot was interesting, and the steampunk stuff continues to be super fun and well thought-out. I usually hate children in books like this because they're just WAYYYY too adorable, but these kids didn't make me crazy like they usually do (although Ilona Andrews has YET to be topped in the cool kid department with her Edge series. Love those kids).

Anyhoo, definitely a good read for people who like steampunk and mysteries and period pieces, guy or girl!

George Shirer I started reading the first book in this series, Phoenix Rising, and got bogged down about halfway through. One of the most irritating things about that book was the constant references to Braun's bulletproof corset. It was like the author felt compelled to mention it every few pages. Does she continue that trend in this one? Or does she expand her focus to other bits of Braun's wardrobe? Like, I don't know, fireproof bloomers or something? Just curious.

Jane Higginson bullet proof corset and fireproof bloomers..hmm I can so see Bonnie trying to get someone to make these on a vf hangout :P I kinda like refernces to things like bulletproof corsets, though I havnt as yet read this series or much steampunk, but to me it just adds to the world

Philippa Thanks for the review, Felicia. We're working on book three right now and having fun doing it. We also produced our own book trailer for the Janus Affair, with the old zero dollars, and help from our friends method. In the end it became a bit of a short film!

Larissa Great review! I loved the first book and am looking forward to this! Glad to see you are an IloNa andrews fan as well! Have you read her Kate Daniels series?

Dan F Great Review Felicia It took me a little to get into this book but after a third of the way through I really got into it! Agreed about part with the kids.
